Ugh the costs
ok I wanted a new hard drive, this time SATA 250GB
have 2 sata ports on my motherboard...... no problem.......
got new hard drive after having it shipped... received.... day after receiving realize I don't have any extra power connectors nor do I have a sata power connector on my power supply...
ok locate and purchase new power supply $70
ok ...install new power supply and new hard drive..... not seeing hard drive.... realize oh yea gotta install drivers for SATA during XP install ....
ok begin backuping up documents and moving stuff over to my other spare drive that I use for school.....
reformat ..... install drivers... get XP backup..... install rest of drivers.... STILL does not see new hard drive
try 8 times to get windows to install the sata drivers to no avail.
Talk with fiance, in frustration cause this should be working! go to compusa purchase PCI Sata card.... $70
Install PCI card, install drivers, hook up new drive.... SEES drive..... dances in glee
now to finish reinstalling software... ughhhhhh a long process that will take a bit...
Total spent including a new hard drive:
hard drive 102
power supply 70
pci card 70
grand total 242 just for a freaking hard drive

Laptop is dieing..........very slowly
The Inspiron 5100 from Dell that I own is slowly dieing. It is on its last legs. Last night in class, screen suddenly when white. While I was initially saying what the hell...where did my video go? After a while and some troubleshooting with another classmate and friend, figured out that the wires that go to the video controller is either (a) loose (b) shorting ...... have it rigged for now to work, but was strongly suggested to me to get another laptop............ Yes this is dell's bad boy laptop.....the laptop that has always been known to have issues from day 1...ie this laptop badly overheats......... how I have been lucky with it since I have had it for a couple of years (like 3 I think...) it has gotten me thru my associates and to the start of my 3rd quarter of my bachelors.......
anyway a new laptop has been bought, and I am very anxiously awaiting for.
the new laptop has:
512 mb Video
1 GB RAm
100GB sata hard drive
I also bought the bigger battery to give me longer time unplugged and the auto/air adapter. Yes my new laptop will be going with me to Oklahoma and Arizona. It also has wireless built in (something I elected not to have on the 5100)
Anyway........ on other news I also had purchased a 250GB Sata hard drive for my pc at home. I received this toy in the mail yesterday....upon opening it I realized that I didn't have enough power connectors or sata connectors on my current power supply....... so I went in search of a new power supply this morning as I got into work......and quickly purchased a 550 watt power supply that also has the sata power connectors already attached ....no adapter needed....
Am in class awaiting the instructor to arrive who thought class was tomorrow and not tomorrow. School chair said we could have class tomorrow instead of waiting for the instructor tonight, and I said "Oh heck no..... I get tomorrow with my fiance you are not taking that from me".....he had already threatened Saturday class last night........ I do NOT want a Saturday class again.....its a dread and throws a wrench in everything.....
